Disc Injury

What causes a bulging disc in your back?

The most common places a bulging disc will occur is in the cervical (upper) and lumber (lower) regions of the spine. You will usually feel nothing from a bulging disc, unless it is putting pressure on a nerve root or your spinal cord.

This disc space in your back is similar to “jelly” ; if this jelly like material has more pressure on one side compared to the other side it causes one side to “squeeze” out. This can be referred to as a bulging disc. We work to even out the pressure in the spine so that all sides of the spine have the same amount of pressure. Often times a bulging disc can turn into a herniation if stress is applied to the spine over time. It is important to have equal pressure on each side of the spine.
