Back Pain

Are you suffering from back pain in Helena or East Helena? Dr. Brandon and the chiropractors at our office take a special interest in “tough low back cases”.  Low back pain can have multiple causes. One of the biggest causes of back pain we take care of are “on the job” or “work comp” injury’s. Car accidents cases are a very familiar condition we care for as well.

Causes of back pain

When a person struggles with chronic back pain it is usually associated with a long term repetitive micro-trauma that happens over a long period of time. Some examples would be slouching in front of a computer screen all day, sitting a on a wallet all the time, always crossing your legs in the same direction over and over again, or it could be  due to a trauma. Traumas such as a slip and fall injury, car accidents, or even poor positioning of your neck can create long term low back pain issues. The juncture of where the low back meets the pelvis becomes the biggest area of complaint for most people.

Helena chiropractor for back fusion

Dr. Brandon, Dr. Austin and Dr. Zach have had thousands of patients with low back fusions. They will typically  take an x-ray of the font of the back, and also one from the side to obtain a clear image of what is happening in the low back. We are able to isolate the levels that have been fused by taking a digital x-ray. When a segment is fused we can adjust above and below the fusion. Obviously, we will not adjust the middle of a fusion,  the fusion will act as one bone and will move together.

Back pain from spinal imbalance

Spinal imbalance is the number one reason people visit a chiropractors to relieve back pain. Back pain is one of the top three things we take care of in our office. We are very good at relieving and fixing back pain. However, not all chiropractors practice the same.  We utilize the Palmer package techniques and flexion distraction ( a table designed to open up and stretch the disc space). Our chiropractors at Balanced Chiropractic in Helena also specialize in back pain, back tightness, and back problems that are going into the leg (sciatica).

So, why are we concerned with you having a balanced back? If you have more pressure on one side of your spine (back) compared to the other side you will have uneven pressure on the disc space in your back.  The segments in your back have jelly like disc spaces that will “squish” out if uneven pressure is in your back. This is often called a spinal subluxation.

Back pain from a neck or ankle injury

It is sometimes the case that a low back case is coming from the neck. Neck pain will often turn to low back pain. If neck pain is causing low back pain it is usually due to an anterior atlas (top neck bone moved forward). Or it is from a lack of a curve in the mid neck. Taking care of neck pain will often times ease the low back pain. Usually, the low back is out of place as well, because it is compensating for the neck. After the initial exam we will be able to tell if it is a neck, back, or neck and back case.

Chronic ankle problems can cause an uneven base and will cause the hips to malposition. Dr. Brandon has extensively studied the feet, under Dr. Malley (who primary takes care of NFL players).  This will all be evaluated during the exam. Low back pain due to other factors, will be evaluated as well.

Experience is essential

Dr. Brandon and Dr. Holly graduated from Palmer College of Chiropractic and utilize the most effective techniques. Did you know there are over 150 chiropractic techniques available? They all work. Some just work better; and still others work much, much better.  We have learned from experience and will get your back “balanced ” to relieve uneven pressure and pain. Dr. Brandon and Dr. Holly have the experience you won’t find just anywhere.

We will do a full exam and will take X-rays if medically necessary. If you have been to other medical offices and have previous X-rays or MRI reports, please bring them on your first visit. We will correlate the imaging findings that you have to your exam and to any new X-rays we believe are necessary.  We often utilize x-rays for low back cases because “to see is to know and to not see is to guess”. However, we never take X-rays on someone who is pregnant.

With a proper analysis and a thorough evaluation we can determine what we need to do to fix your low back pain. Most of the time with a few adjustments and proper training of your low back and core muscles we can resolve your back pain quickly!
